FUHSI VC Charges Medical Practitioners on Professional Ethics as IMAN holds National Executive Council Meeting in Ibadan

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Health Science, Ila Orangun, Osun State, (FUHSI), Prof. Akeem Lasisi, has charged Health Care Professionals in the country to ensure strict adherence to professional ethics in the performance of their duties.


Prof Lasisi , who spoke through, a Senior Lecturer, from the University of Ibadan, Dr. Akeem Lawal gave the charge while presenting a paper titled ‘Upholding Islamic Ethics by Muslim Health Practitioners Amidst Contemporary Challenges”at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque Conference Center.

Speaking further at the National Executive Council Meeting of the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria,Prof.Lasisi, enjoined medical practitioners not to allow patients to lose confidence reposed in them.

He added that treating patients with utmost sincerity is crucial , noting that Almighty God will ask health workers for their input in saving mankind.

He said: Today’s lecture centered on healthcare professionals, such as physicians, medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, laboratory scientists and everybody working in the health sector.
“We talked about contemporary challenges in practice, how to uphold Islamic ethics and help to mitigate these great challenges”.


“We went into the Quran and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that have provided us with the ethical bases to practice so that we can have a fulfilled life here and thereafter “.

He speaks further :
“ Take home from this is that whatever we do as healthcare professionals, we are doing it as a trust from the Almighty, we are to treat patients, we have to do justice in treating them, we have to treat them with dignity, we have to treat them because of the injunction from the Quran that whoever kills someone, whoever takes a life is as if the person has killed the whole of the mankind and who saves one life is as if the person has saved the whole of mankind.

In his opening remarks, the Oyo State Chairman of IMAN,Dr.Taiwo.Alatise,
explained that the Association has organized medical outreaches for different people in the society.

He stressed the need for members of the association to always live above board in the performance of their professional duties.

According to him, activities of the IMAN,span across lectures, symposia,
workshops aiming at improving religious and health knowledge of health professionals.Also, regular assistance to indigent patients, general and specialized free medical and surgical camps to mention a few.’

He then stressed the need for all health practitioners to work in synergy to achieve the objectives of the medical profession.

While speaking, the National President of IMAN, prof.Ibraheem Oreagba, said that the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN) is an independent,
Professional, Charitable and Non-political body.


“The organization has established branches in 29 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory Abuja with over twenty thousand (20,000)active members.
