Oreagba re-elected President Islamic Medical Association, says first term quite fulfilling

Prof Ibrahim Oreagba has been re-elected to serve a second three-year term as the Amir (President) of Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN).

Oreagba, a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology Therapeutics and Toxicology, College of Medicine University of Lagos Idi-Araba, was re-elected president at the 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Scientific Conference of the Association held in Gombe State, between Tuesday and Saturday, September 5 – 9, 2023.

The conference with the theme, “Gombe 2023: Nourishing today’s Healthcare”, was graced by prominent Muslim personalities including the Chief Medical Director of Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe State, Dr Yusuf Abdullahi; Keynote Address Speaker, Dr Muhammad Saddiq from University of Sheffield, UK and Chairman of the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of Gombe State University, Prof Aliyu Usman Nafaty, among others.

While announcing him, the chairman of the Shurah committee, Khalil Abdullahi Esq. Bauchi stated that Prof Oreagba was re-elected president after “a thorough deliberation and careful selection based on concrete considerations.”

In a chat with Muslim News, Prof Oreagba noted that his first term was filled with activities that were quite fulfilling, adding that his second term, by God’s grace, will be used to consolidate the gains of the association.

Other national officers of the association include Pharm. Dr Muhd Audi (Niger – VP I); Dr Ibrahim Opeewe (Ogun – VP II); Prof Nasir Abdulrashid (Kwara – Secretary General); Shuaib Ibrahim (Adamawa – Assistant Secretary General I) and Muhammad A. Bularafa (Yobe – Assistant Secretary General II).

Also elected were Dr. Muhammad Haruna (Bauchi – Pubic Relations Officer I); Jaafar Aliyu (Borno – Public Relations Officer II); Usman Hassan Shaaba (Kano – Treasurer); Dr. Garba U. Kangiwa (Kebbi – Financial Secretary) and Dr. Mustapha Yakub (Kaduna – Internal Auditor); Dr Tajudeen Abiola (Kaduna – Editor-in-Chief); Khalil Abdullahi Esq. (Bauchi – Legal Adviser); Dr Salisu Ismail (Sokoto – Ex-Officio I)

Hajiya Naima Balarabe from Zamfara was also re-elected as Amirah (Female President). Others are Hadiza Manga (Sokoto – Secretary, Sister’s Forum) and Prof Hajara Sulayman (Kaduna – Assistant Editor -in-Chief).

The Shurah Chairman, at the inauguration ceremony held at the Multipurpose Hall, College of Medical Sciences, Gombe State University, admonished the newly elected national officers to take the confidence reposed in them as a trust and do their best to take IMAN to higher levels.

The Shurah urged the national body of the association and all branches to abide by the provisions of the constitution to ensure uniformity.

The Shurah called on IMAN members at all levels to give maximum cooperation and support to the newly inaugurated leadership to be able to strengthen the mission and vision of the association.

The Shurah thanked the IMAN leadership for the confidence and the trust reposed in them to undertake such important assignment.
